Layers of The Lithosphere
Lithosphere is Latin for Sphere of rock. It is the outermost shell of the Earth. It is made up of the crust and the upper mantle.
-Lithosphere
The Lithosphere is split into plates also known as the Tectonic Plates. The plates are constantly shifting and when two plates are constantly pushing against each other, pressure builds up and eventually, one plate will be forced above another plate thus causing an earthquake.
-Asthenosphere
Below the Lithosphere is the Asthenosphere. This layer is from 100-200 km below the lithosphere and is almost the exact same thing. One of the only differences is the fact that the asthenosphere consists of a more rubbery material because of how deep it is in the earth.
